Dr. Guion works with adolescents, adults, and couples, with an interest in working with folks presenting with trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, LGBTQ concerns, men’s issues, ADHD, grief/loss, and substance use concerns. He takes a collaborative approach with clients and works to ensure agreement on goals and understanding of the therapeutic process. In addition to addressing client goals, he hopes to encourage clients’ curiosity, self-awareness, and values.
Dr. Guion uses an integrative approach in therapy, based on your situation. He draws from his training in interpersonal psychotherapy and pulls from other theory and techniques, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment (ACT), motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and humanistic approaches. Dr. Guion has worked and trained in a variety of settings, including a college counseling center, outpatient clinics, inpatient addiction treatment center, and correctional settings, and he enjoys working with a diverse group of clients.
Dr. Guion earned his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and completed his pre-doctoral internship at VCU’s University Counseling Services. He previously earned a B.S. in Commerce from the University of Virginia and worked in the business world for a while. That change helped him better understand the impact of work on his and clients' lives.
