Wendy S. Cohen, M.D.
"I view the doctor-patient relationship as a collaborative process. The patient is an active partner in treatment. For most conditions, medication alone is only one facet of treatment; it 'levels the playing field' so that patients can use their own inner resources to cope with the circumstances in their lives."
Dr. Cohen joined Commonwealth Counseling Associates in April of 2004 as a general adult and consult-liaison psychiatrist. Along with her experience in private practice, Dr. Cohen is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Dr. Cohen sees adults, age 18 and up in the West End office. One of Dr. Cohen's specialty areas is working with patients with medical illnesses. She is also interested in nutritional and integrative approaches to healing.
Dr. Cohen earned her BA degree from Harvard University, and her MD degree from University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. She did her psychiatric residency at Yale University. She also completed two fellowships, both at the Medical College of Virginia, in Consult-Liaison Psychiatry (the interface between medicine and psychiatry) and in Palliative Care. She is board certified in Psychiatry.
