Wendy S. Cohen, MD
"Therapy is a collaboration between client and physician." I have found that a "patient centered" approach to therapy can be very effective."
Dr. Cohen joined Commonwealth Counseling Associates in April of 2004, as a general adult and consult-liaison psychiatrist. Along with her experience in private practice, Dr. Cohen is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Dr. Cohen sees primarily adults, age 18 and up in the West End office. She views therapy as a collaboration between the client and physician, and considers her approach to therapy interpersonal or “patient centered”. One of Dr. Cohen’s specialty areas is working with clients with significant medical illnesses. She has extensive experience working with oncology patients, and provides palliative care in home and hospice environments. She is also interested in nutritional and alternative methods of healing.
Dr. Cohen earned her BA degree from Harvard University, and her MD degree from University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. She did her psychiatric residency at Yale University. She also completed two fellowships, both at the Medical College of Virginia, in Consult-Liaison Psychiatry and in Palliative Care. She is board certified in Psychiatry.
