Laura M. Worrel, M.D.
"I enjoy working with patients to help improve thier lives and meet thier individual goals."
Dr. Worrel joined CCA in July of 2006 as a general adult and consult-liaison psychiatrist. After attending college at the University of Virginia and medical school at the Mayo Clinic, she completed her psychiatry residency at the University of North Carolina Hospitals. Dr. Worrel is board certified in psychiatry.
Based at our Midlothian clinic, Dr. Worrel sees primarily adults, ages 18 and up. She understands her role as a psychiatrist to be part of a team that is working together to treat mental illness and improve the lives of her patients. This team always includes the patient and often includes the patient’s therapist, primary care doctor, social support network, and others. Dr. Worrel believes that biological therapies (primarily medications) and psychotherapies, often used in combination, are both valuable in treating patients. Her approach to therapy draws upon several schools of thought and is tailored to the individual patient.
Dr. Worrel has broad interests in general adult psychiatry. Her specialty areas include women’s mental health and consultation-liaison psychiatry.
