Dr. Arocho, Psy.D
Dr. Arocho is a certified licensed Clinical Psychologist in Virginia and New York State, with over 10 years of clinical experience treating children, adolescents and adults. She is a fully bilingual (English-Spanish speaking) psychologist trained in multicultural competency.
Dr. Arocho’s career in psychology has primarily focused in outpatient community mental health clinics in New York City. Prior to joining CCA, she was employed by two top ranking hospitals in the nation, New York Presbyterian Hospital and NYU Langone.
Dr. Arocho has clinical experiences in trauma-focused therapy, and evidence-based interventions such as cognitive behavioral therapy for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and anxiety. Her clinical interests are in working with children with mood/anxiety disorders, LGBTQ population, behavioral issues (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Oppositional Defiance Disorder) and family conflict and disruption.
She received her BA in Psychology from University of Puerto Rico in 2001, and her MS in Clinical Psychology (2003), and Psy.D in clinical psychology (2008) at Carlos Albizu University. She completed an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited doctoral internship on 2007 at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, and her postdoctoral fellowship in psychology with the Center for Community Health and Education (CCHE) at New York Presbyterian Hospital in 2009.
Dr. Arocho specializes in working with depression and anxiety, behavioral issues and parent training for disruptive behaviors disorders. She provides individual, couples and family therapy. Dr. Arocho is an Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) trained clinician since 2013. She became a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (IATP approved) in 2016. She received the New York State Managing and Adapting Practice (MAP) Certification (Evidence-Base treatment for children and adolescents) in 2017, and last year began her training in Mindfulness, completing a Certification on Mindfulness-Base Therapeutic Interventions.
Her approach to psychotherapy focuses on establishing a warm, compassionate and supportive relationship with her patients and their families. Dr. Arocho promotes an active and collaborative approach to treatment that is tailored to each client’s unique and individual needs. As a clinician she likes to integrate basic components of the holistic and humanistic approach into her practice.
