Dr. Bill Nichelson, Ph.D., LCP, joins CCA in January 2017 as a clinical psychologist working with adults in the Hanover office. Dr. Nichelson emphasizes a collaborative approach to treatment, recognizing that each therapy experience will be most effective when uniquely tailored to the client’s individual needs and strengths. By providing an environment of safety, acceptance, validation, and trust, he creates the conditions for a healthy relationship that enhances and fosters the growth and well being of his clients. He draws from a variety of therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Interpersonal Process Therapy (IPT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Prolonged Exposure (PE).

Amber Tate joins CCA in October 2016. She is a certified nurse practitioner who obtained a Bachelor of Nursing degree and a Master of Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. She will work in the Midlothian office and will provide treatment for both children and adults.
Amber worked at the Virginia Treatment Center for Children for 3 years prior to coming to CCA. During this time she developed skills in collaborative problem solving and trauma informed care while working with a wide range of mental illnesses. Amber has a primary interest in treating ADHD, anxiety and mood disorders.

Dr. Maryann McCoul, Ph.D., LCP, joins CCA in October 2016 as a clinical psychologist working with adults and seniors in the Midlothian office. She encourages clients to explore curiosities and assumptions about self, how their past influences their present, and patterns of behaviors and functioning that may both interfere and support their current situations. Her expertise includes working with depression, anxiety, loss, PTSD, anger management, chronic illness, and sexual orientation issues.

Dr. Ashley Foresman, Psy.D., LCP, joins CCA in February 2016 as a clinical psychologist working with adolescents, and adults in the Midlothian office. Dr. Andrea Weisman joins the Midlothian office of Commonwealth Counseling Associates as of July 2015. She works primarily with adolescents, adults, couples and group therapy as well as with a variety of presenting concerns such as feelings of depression, anxiety, relationship discord and family distress, decision-making and general life transitions. Some of Dr. Weisman’s areas of interest include LGBTQ, transitioning and gender non-conforming. She has also worked extensively with a diverse population, including Native American and Buddhist clients.
Her approach to therapy is person centered and reality theory based. Dr. Weisman believes in a holistic view and sees great value in understanding and treating the whole person.

CCA is pleased to welcome Dr. Matthew Stone and Gwendolyn Bohn to CCA.
Dr. Stone is based out of the Hanover and West End Offices. He practices an integrated psychotherapeutic approach with teens, adults and couples. A safe exploratory relationship is central to his work, allowing his clients to express thoughts and feelings freely, including aspects of themselves that were previously not fully known. Dr. Stone treats a wide spectrum of psychiatric disorders and emotional difficulties including depression, anxiety, bipolar and related disorders, trauma- and stressor-related reactions and couples and relational problems.

Gwen is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who specializes in working with children, adolescents, and young adult women. Gwen strongly believes in a holistic approach to care. Jennifer Cameron, Ph.D., joins the Midlothian office specializing in assisting clients at the intersection of physical health and mental health. She works with adult clients and understands that making healthy life changes can be very difficult, even when it is the thing you want to do most. Therapeutic approaches include motivational interviewing and cognitive-behavioral therapy, along with mindfulness and a variety of relaxation strategies. She is also influenced by acceptance and commitment therapy. Dr. Cameron has worked with persons with heart diseases, diabetes, chronic pain, and those seeking to lose weight, among many other concerns often presenting in the primary care setting.

Dr. Sarah Benton originally joined CCA in February 2010. She has returned June of this year to our Hanover office on a part time basis. We are happy to welcome Dr. Jennifer Lumpkin, Psy.D., ABPP to our Hanover office. Dr. Lumpkin is a licensed clinical psychologist and board certified rehabilitation psychologist who joined Commonwealth Counseling in 2013. Dr. Lumpkin has worked full-time as a neuropsychologist and rehabilitation psychologist at McGuire VA since 2007 and will offer services to Commonwealth Counseling on a part-time basis.
Dr. Lumpkin also practices as a cognitive-behavioral therapist and is trained to work with adults from age 18 through the life span. Dr. Lumpkin has experience working with individuals 65+ in the context of neuropsychological assessment and psychotherapy, as she once worked as a consultant in local nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

Commonwealth Counseling Associates is pleased to welcome Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist John Gregory Fisher, MD to the medical staff at our Hanover office.
Dr. Fisher received his medical degree and completed his residency and fellowship training at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. He is Board Certified in General Psychiatry and in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and the American Academy of Child Psychiatry.
Prior to joining CCA, Dr. Fisher practiced for over 20 years at Centra Health System’s Virginia Baptist Hospital. For the last seven years he served as Medical Director of the hospital’s acute inpatient Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Unit.

Kimberly begins with CCA this June as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She earned a B.S. from Virginia Tech and a Master of Social Work from VCU. Special areas of interest include mood disorders, adjustment disorders, and relationship difficulties. Kim also has many clients who are in therapy to address codependency and low self-esteem. In addition, Kim enjoys working with families who have a loved one diagnosed with a mood disorder, including serious mental illness, as this can often provoke or exacerbate stress within the family system.

Jennifer Shatzkin is a counselor in the Midlothian office with ten years of clinical experience working with adults in various settings with a multitude of concerns. Dr. Beth McGraw recently began working in the West End office and plans to work with adults specializing in a range of diagnoses including mood disorders, anxiety disorders and personality disorders. Dr. Rowan began working at CCA in August 2012. Her therapeutic style involves an Interpersonal Process Therapy approach to counseling in which she focuses on building a strong healing therapeutic alliance with her clients. She integrates Cognitive Behavior Therapy techniques and a Multicultural Perspective into her work while also providing psychoeducation to help her clients develop healthy coping skills.
