David Dameron Ph.D. will be opening a fifth Commonwealth Counseling Associates, PC office in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The office is scheduled to open on August 5, 2014. Dr. Dameron will be seeing patients initially and will be actively recruiting new clinical staff as the Fredericksburg practice grows with the goal of having a full service Behavioral Health Clinic in the near future. Dr. Dameron’s scope of treatment services includes, Depression, Anxiety, Phobias, Grief and Bereavement, Compulsive Disorders, Relationship issues, Work related issues and Adult ADHD. Dr. Dameron works collaboratively with all Primary Care Physician related to other medical or medication issues as appropriate or needed. The new Fredericksburg office is located on 700 Princess Anne Street, suite 10 in the old historical district of Fredericksburg. There is ample parking in the back of the building which is located directly across from the new Court House and 1 1/2 blocks from the Amtrak station.

Dr. Chambers received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University Medical School and then went on to the University of Virginia for his residency training in psychiatry. He is Board Eligible in General Adult Psychiatry.

Dr. Sarah Benton originally joined CCA in February 2010. She has returned June of this year to our Hanover office on a part time basis. As a clinical psychologist who primarily offers child, individual and family therapy, her clinical interest is in providing cognitive behavioral therapy for children and adolescents. Dr. Benton’s areas of specialization include working with children with medical diseases and their families to improve overall coping methods and compliance with treatment.

Debbie York, RN, FNP-BC is a Nurse Practitioner who began working in psychiatric medication management in 2003 and joined CCA in 2007. After a three year hiatus, she has returned on a part-time basis to the Mechanicsville office. She works with adults experiencing a full range of psychiatric issues aged 18-64.

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Jenee’ Lewis-Walker, Psy.D., ABPP to our Hanover office! She is a licensed clinical psychologist who joins Commonwealth Counseling in February of 2014. Dr. Walker’s clinical experience includes working with children, adolescents, and adults from a variety of ethnic, genders, ages, and socioeconomic backgrounds, providing services such as psychological assessment, psychotherapy, and research design. She has worked in a variety of clinical settings such as mental health clinics, residential treatment facilities, detention centers, and outpatient private practice.

We are thrilled for Dr. Dunnavant, Ph.D., LCP to join Commonwealth Counseling as well! She is a licensed clinical psychologist who primarily offers individual, couples, and group counseling to adults of all ages. She assists individuals with a variety of presenting concerns such as feelings of depression and anxiety, relationship and family distress, decision-making and general life transitions, and loss. Some of Dr. Dunnavant’s areas of particular interest include LGBTQ and gender concerns, and issues surrounding grief and end of life.

We are happy to welcome Dr. Jennifer Lumpkin, Psy.D., ABPP to our Hanover office. Dr. Lumpkin is a licensed clinical psychologist and board certified rehabilitation psychologist who joined Commonwealth Counseling in 2013. Dr. Lumpkin has worked full-time as a neuropsychologist and rehabilitation psychologist at McGuire VA since 2007 and will offer services to Commonwealth Counseling on a part-time basis.
Dr. Lumpkin also practices as a cognitive-behavioral therapist and is trained to work with adults from age 18 through the life span. Dr. Lumpkin has experience working with individuals 65+ in the context of neuropsychological assessment and psychotherapy, as she once worked as a consultant in local nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

Commonwealth Counseling Associates is pleased to welcome Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist John Gregory Fisher, MD to the medical staff at our Hanover office.
Dr. Fisher received his medical degree and completed his residency and fellowship training at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. He is Board Certified in General Psychiatry and in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and the American Academy of Child Psychiatry.
Prior to joining CCA, Dr. Fisher practiced for over 20 years at Centra Health System’s Virginia Baptist Hospital. For the last seven years he served as Medical Director of the hospital’s acute inpatient Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Unit.

Kimberly begins with CCA this June as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She earned a B.S. from Virginia Tech and a Master of Social Work from VCU. Special areas of interest include mood disorders, adjustment disorders, and relationship difficulties. Kim also has many clients who are in therapy to address codependency and low self-esteem. In addition, Kim enjoys working with families who have a loved one diagnosed with a mood disorder, including serious mental illness, as this can often provoke or exacerbate stress within the family system.

Kate Tibbs joins CCA this February as a Family Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. At CCA, Mrs. Tibbs provides treatment for both children and adults at our West End and Midlothian offices. Through both inpatient and outpatient training, Mrs. Tibbs developed expertise and interest in treating mood disorders, ADHD and anxiety disorders. Jennifer Shatzkin is a counselor in the Midlothian office with ten years of clinical experience working with adults in various settings with a multitude of concerns. Ms. Shatzkin’s specialty areas include mood and anxiety disorders, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (combat and noncombat related), substance use problems, addictive behaviors, chronic and acute pain issues, couples therapy and relationship issues. Dr. Beth McGraw recently began working in the West End office and plans to work with adults specializing in a range of diagnoses including mood disorders, anxiety disorders and personality disorders. Dr. Rowan began working at CCA in August 2012. Her therapeutic style involves an Interpersonal Process Therapy approach to counseling in which she focuses on building a strong healing therapeutic alliance with her clients. She integrates Cognitive Behavior Therapy techniques and a Multicultural Perspective into her work while also providing psychoeducation to help her clients develop healthy coping skills. Particular areas of interest include relationship difficulties, stress management, mood disorders, identity concerns, and both multicultural and LGBT-related challenges.
